A. Young, Winchester, stating that tho long-promised work of cleaning the side channels in Winchester had not yet been done, although there were persona in the town who wanted work.—The Overseer said he had done all that was necessary, but he could not rake up the footpaths as Mr Young required. There was a little to be done near the saleyards.—lt was decided to inform Mr Young that the Overseer slated he has had any work that he has deemed necessary attended to from time to time. From Mr Walter Kitson, Chief Surveyor, stating as regards the road to George Town about which there has been some trouble with the natives, all the information he could give was that it had been marked as a road on the map many years ago.—The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Kitson stating that what the Board wanted was to open instead of closing a road to George Town. overseer’s report,

The Overseer’s report was then read as follows :

“ I have had the work ordered by the Board done, and the thistles cut on various roads so that traffic can pass. There are a few more places to cut. As directed, I have made an estimate of the cost of a drain to take the water from Marshall’s road along the boiling-down road to the creek, but I would not recommend this work to be done. To strengthen the canal drain there would be nine chains to cut out of the solid, and nine chains to widen and deepen. 1 have the pipes that connect the canal drain with Marshall’s road drain, but I have not taken them up yet, as lam waiting for the decision of the Board re Mr Dickenson’sletter asking them to be allowed to remain. About forty chains of the Boundary Road (between Mr Deßenzy’s corner and Mr Smith’s gate) require shingling with fifteen yards to the chain, Malarkey’s drain requires cleaning, also part of the north end of the drain on the west side of Rolleston’s road. The largo stones on this road want picking off or breaking. The greater part of the drains that Mr Wareing offered to clean and keep clean for twelve months do not badly require cleaning at present. The contract for forming footpaths, Main South Road, is not yet finished, but I have passed the cheque for payment to be held over,”

The following resolutions bearing on the Overseer’s report were passed That the matter of the Milford canal drain stand over for the present.” “ That as regards the Boundary road, tenders to be culled for the work for next Bond day, and that the Overseer see whetheraless quantity of shingle would not do.”

“That Malarkey's drain Jand the north end of the drain on Rolleston’s road be cleaned, and the stone picked offßolleston’s road.” The meeting then terminated.
