TEMUKA RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.
A special meeting of the Temuka Rifles was held last evening in the Volunteer Hall, Captain J. T. M. Hayhurst in the chair. There was a large attendance.
The Chairman stated that the meeting was called for the purpose of considering the advisability of procuring undress uniforms.
After a long discussion it was proposed by Corporal H. B. Smith, seconded by Private Hobbs, and carried—“ That undress uniforms be procured for the raerabeis of the Company, the cost of sanhe to be paid out of the Company’s fund, and the same to be the property of the Company.” A deputation from the Temuka Brass Band, consisting of Messrs E. Brown, Rutland, and Harrison, waited on the meeting with reference to the Band joining the Company, Mr Brown stated that the members of the Band were willing to join the Company. The Chairman asked what they intended to do with their instruments.
Mr Brown said they intended to invest them in three trustees—Messrs Job. Brown, J. Meyer, and O. J. Rayner. In reply to Private Hobbs, Mr Harrison stated that the Band was willing to join the Company, and the instruments would immediately be vested in the three trustees above named.
After a good deal of discussion, Sergeant Woodhead proposed, Private Hobbs seconded, and it was carried—“ That the offer of the Band be accepted, subject to the approval of members at next parade of the Company, and trustees being appointed, and the consent of those trustees being obtained for the use of the instruments for the Company.” The meeting then terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
