DUNEDIN MARKETS.
At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday there were 292 head of fat cattle yarded of various qualities, from fair to good to prime. Bidding was slack at a decline of fully 2s 6d per 1001 b on last quotations, and many were turned out unsold. Best bullocks brought £8 to £9 ; others, £5 to £7l Os; cows, £4 7s 6d to £7. Beef, 20s to 22s per 1001 b. Mr M. Quinn sold 7 head bullocks and cows at from £5 7s 6d to £7 2s 6i. Fat Calves sold readily at from 9s to 235. Fat Sheep—23lo penned, including 224 merinos. Best crossbreds brought 14s 6d to 16s 6d ; others, 12s 3d to 14s ; inferior, from 9s ; merinos, from 6s 6d to 13s 6d. Mutton, 2|d to 2£d per lb. Mr Quinn sold 130 crossbreds at 13a 9d. Pigs—Suckers brought from lls 9d to 23s ; porkers, 27s to 40s; bacon pigs, 50s to 78s. Sheepskins—Dry crossbreds brought Is 3d to 4s 9d ; do merino, Is 3d to 4s 6d green pelts, lid to Is 5d ; lambskins, lOd to Is 6d. Hides—Heavy sorts meet ready sale at full rates—viz., 3gd, 4d, and 4|d, according to condition quality and weight. Tallow—Mixed, well rendered, sells at 26s ; medium, 23s to 255; inferior, 18s to 22s ; rough fat, according to quality, 14s to 17s per cwt. Wheat—Not much inquiry for parcels of any description, but prime samples may be placed at 3s 5d to 3s 7d.—Donald Reid and Go. have sold 400 sacks at 3s 6d. Other sorts sell at up to 2s 9d ; fowl feed, 2s to 2s sd.
Oats - Good milling and bright feed in limited supply, and consequently during the week prices for these have continued firm. Damaged, discolored, or musty parcels are hard to place. Quotations are ; Prime milling and bright feed, 2s 4d to 2s s^l; one very superior lot brought 2s 7£d ; medium quality, 2a Id to 2a 3d ; discolored and musty, Is 9d to 2s, Barley—Some inquiry for new crop, but none in market as yet. Potatoes —Large quantities coming forward. At auction on Saturday prime kidneys brought since then 50s is the top price offering.
At the Addington yards on Wednesday there was an average entry of stock, and but a few buyers, The fat sheep were on the whole of good quality, and in number far beyond local requirements. An outside buyer or two helped to make a pretty good clearance, but rates ruled again very low. Crossbreds sold at from 16s 6d to 14s 6d ; merino wethers, from 7s 3d to 10s, an average of barely 2d per lb being paid. The entries pf afore sheep were not l«trge, and sales were few at lafo Lines of two-tooth mixed sexes, sold at from 8s 8d to 10s lid. A line of crossbred ewes, with lambs, at 13s 3d. A line of mixed age crossbred ewes, 8a 9d, and a line of lambs at 5s 9d. The fat lamb market was but lightly sup-, plied, sales being made at from 6d to 10% per hyad. 'pie pig ‘market was well supplied, the' enquiry for stores being keen, at good values, In the store cattle market a small entry met with a corresponding enquiry. The fat cattle market was well supplied with beef. Demand very dull ; late rates not upheld, 17a 6d to 20a per lOOlbs being paid, according fo quality, with about one-third of the entry turned out unsold.
