TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The usnal m mthly meeting of the above Board was held last night. Present —Messrs K, F. Gray (Chairman), Blyth, Mason, Brown, and Quinn. : ... MINUTES. The minute^ of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from the Arowhenua Cemetery Board offering to pay £1 per year for the use of the Board’s room for holding their meetings in. On the motion of Mr Blyth, seconded by Mr Mason, the request was granted. Mr Gray also applied personally for a similar privilege for the Park Board and the Acclimatisation Society. The applications were granted on similar terms. A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary intimating that 15s had been paid to the credit of the Borod, on account of fines inflicted under the by-laws it force within th© Town District. From Mr M. Quinn, asking that Mr Angland’s name be substituted for his own on the rate roll as Mr Angland was now the occupier of the Star Hotel.— Overseer to attend to same. overseer’s deport. The Overseer reported that thistles had been cut in Allnut, Birkett, Wood, Yine, and Cass streets, and Main South road ; and the channels cleaned on the Railway Terrace, Wood street, and Main South road. One man was employed for 14 days. At the end of the footpath in Birkett street a load of shingle had been p«fc, and also at Whitehead’s brickyard. He suggested that sides of streets overgrown with grass might be ploughed, especially the Main South road from Wood street to Godby street. Mr Roddick had promised to defray the expenses incurred with regard to advertising for lease of sectidhs taken by him. Th« half-year’s rent for lease of sections, amounting to £l2 15s 3d, was now due. The balance to credit was £29 6s 2d. At last meeting the account was overdrawn to the amount of £l2 18s 2d, but since then he had paid in £35 12s lid. The Government had returned 15s for fines, and the Inspector of Weights and Measures £5 16s 7d for testing weights and measures. A considerable sum was still due for rates and dog collars, and the Board could decide as to what steps they would take in these matters. On the motion of Mr Mason seconded by Mr Blyth, the Overseer was instructed to attend to the clearing of water channels, and the filling up of any low places, holes, etc., along the streets. On the motion of Mr Brown, seconded by Mr Blyth, it was decided to give the names of owners of unregistered dogs up to the police with instructions to sue at once. As regards the rates, it was decided to sue at once, and for that purpose the names of defaulters were put in a hat and lots drawn as to who should be first prosecuted. Six names were drawn, and it was decided to summon them at once. MISCELLANEOUS. Attention was directed to the channel near the Wallingford Hotel, in Commerce Street, and it was decided to request Messrs Storey and Windebank to attend to it. Accounts to the amount of £l3 2s 3d were passed for payment.
