CRICKET.

MARRIED F. SINGLE, The match between the majried and single members of the Geraldine Cricket Cl ub came off on Saturday, and proved more interesting than the married and single matches of former years. This is the first time, we believe, that the single men have won. The latter on Saturday were confident of success, relying strongly upon their bowling talent, and the amount of practice they had had during the last month. The married men were badly ont of practice, and to this may, in a great measure, be put down their defeat. The day was beautifully fine, and a thunderstorm passing a short distance away kept the air nice and cool. The edge of the storm for a few minutes passed over the ground, sufficient rain falling to wet the grass and make the ball very slippery; The teams were captained by W, M, Moore and Bred. Fish. The latter winning the toss for the single men sent them to the wickets, and they succeeded in putting together 40, Francis Fish being the only one getting into double figures, carrying his bat through the innings for 16. He did not score very freely, bis runs being nearly all singles. Moore and Ward divided the wickets between them, each getting 5, The latter bowled well, only 12 runs being scored off him. In the second innings Hargreaves and Cox made a good stand, the former scoring 29 in a free style, and the latter 18. Hargreaves’ score consisted of one 4, two 3’s, seven 2’s, and five singles. The brothers Temple also batted well, the innings closing for 98. Templar was in good form with the ball, getting six wickets for the small cost of sixteen runs. In the first innings of the married men, no one made a stand against the bowling of the brothers Fish, Fred being quite unplayable, and the innings closed for 33. A better stand was made in the second innings, Moore made 9 in his neat style, and Templar batted well for his 11. Ward got set and played in his old style, sending the bowling to all parts of the field. He went in fifth wicket down and put together 36, half the total score. His score contained one 4, one 3, thirteen 2’s and three singles. The brothers Fish were again successful with the ball, and Hargreaves also bowled well. The fielding was nothing extra, the married aide being very weak in that

department of the game. The wicketkeeping of Hargreaves for the single men was very good, and he gave the longstop very little to do. There were no regular umpires, men of each side in turn officiating for the other. The following are the scores Single.

TEMUKA Y.M.C.O. V. PLEASANT POINT C.O. A match between the above teams was played last Saturday at Pleasant Point, The Young Men left Temuka in Mr Davey’s express, and reached the scene of the match about 12 o’clock. Temuka had only seven men, and thus had to play at a great disadvantage to which their having been beaten may be attributed. Play commenced at 1 p.m, the Temuka team handling the willow to the bowling of Dossett and Halstead, Qurr sod Ogilvie were the first to bat, the former carrying his bat through for 27, or more than half the total of the the innings, which was 48. In the second innings of Temuka they scored 17, making a total of 65. The Pleasant Point scored 34 in their first innings, of which Eichbaurn scored 12, the only double figures. In their second venture they scored 35, Eichbaurn again being top scorer with 18 to his credit. On the Temuka side the chief part of the bowling was done by Gurr and Heap, and for the Pleasant Point by Hunt, Halstead and Dossett, Ogilvie captained the Temuka team, and Hunt the Pleasant Point one. The following are the scores :
