ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Jan. 24. The Daily News to-day states that England intends to annex the whole of the southern part of New Guinea. A sharp rise has taken place in nearly all colonial corporation stocks. Sir Win. McArthur, has entertained the Hon, J. B. Thurston, Colonial Secretary of Fiji, at a banquet. Lord Derby considers that any future action taken by England in regard to annexation will much depend upon the liberality of the colonies in the matter. Prince Bismarck is opposing . --The stringency of the annexation rules as proposed by England. The matter is to be brought before the forthcoming Conference oh Pacific affairs. Jan. 25. The Observer states that England assents to the French proposals regarding the Egyptian finances, with the exception of that relating to the immediate appointment of a financial enquiry committee. The Government of Transvaal have concluded a treaty with Germany. Germany has annexed North Sierra Leone, on the West Coast of Africa. Jan. 26. No confirmation has yet been received of the report that an Anglo-German Conference is to take place on the Pacific annexation question. The Cape authorities have succeeded in arresting the murderer of Mr Bethell, who was chief of the frontier police in Becbuanaland. The American Government are pressing the claims of American subjects in Fiji upon the English Government. Berlin, Jan. 24. A convention has been concluded between the Russian and German Governments providing for the mutual extradition of anarchists. Rome, Jan. 24. The annexation by Italy of Belul Bay, in the Red Sea, is said to be imminent. Capetown, Jan. 24. The advance of the British expedition to Bechuanaland has commenced. Washington, Jan. 24. A Bill has been presented to the Senate to provide for the punishment of perpetrators of explosive crimes hatched or committed in America or elsewhere, AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Melbourne, Jan. 27. Obituary—Doctor Davey, of Malmesbury, Victoria, inventor of the telegraphic relay system. Mr Ormond has given £20,000 to found a College of Music here, and to endow three scholarship*. Sydney, Jan. 27. Arrived, last night Ringarooma, from Auckland. Sailed, this afternoon —Wakatipu, for Wellington. The rain has carried away a portion of the western railway line, and traffic is partially suspended in consequence. Hobart, Jan. 26. Arrived, this morning—New Zealand Shipping Company’s R.M.S. Aorangi, from Plymouth (left December 20th). She encountered a heavy gale between Plymouth and Teneriffe. Her passengers for New Zealand number 233. Perth (W.A.), Jan 25. A reward of £SOO has been offered for information leading to the conviction of the perpetrators of the recent murders at the Union Bank, Raeburn.
