ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Jan. 8. It is currently reported hero that the English detectives have discovered the headquarters of the secret society o( dynamiters in Pennsylvania, United States, and proofs that the recent explosion in England was plotted by members of that society. The Oriental Bank /rave purchased the assets ot the old Company, comprising a million and a half pounds worth of shares and three-quarters of a million of debentures, which were aequired altogether for one million nine hundred thousand pounds. The assets are valued at two million and a-half, with the benefit of a full call being made on the shares. The Colonial Office authorities consider it impossible that Prance will now seize the New Hebrides group. The Agents-Generai of the various colonies have decided not to congratulate Prince Albert Victor on the attainment of his majority.
Prince Bismarck will increase the corn duties. The London Chamber of Commerce are drafting a petition for presentation to the Government, urging upon them the necessity for Imperial Federation, and the desirability of increased emigration to the colonies. An application has been made to the Home Secretary praying for the release of Captain Dudley and Stephens, the mate of ihe Mignonette, who were re cently sentenced to six months for the murder of Parker. After due consideration, it was decided not to interfere with the sentence. Jan, 9. Great rejoicings are being held tc-clay et Sandringham, the seat of the Prince of Wales, to celebrate the coming of age of Prince Albert Victor. Several congratulatory addresses were presented to £tis Royal Highness, The alleged discovery of a secret society of dynamiters in Pennsylvania is not generally believed here. Tenders for the New Zealand Loan, of ±1,000,000 at 4 per cent, were opened to-day. There were 740 tenders, covering £3,981,000. Tenders at £99. 6s 6d will receive 30 per cent., and those above that amount in full. Jan. 10. Earl Grey has suggested to Lord Derby the advisability of referring all important questions respecting annexation to a Council selected from the various Agents-General for the colonies. Fearing competition, Prince Bismarck has refused to disclose or indicate the future colonial policy of Germany. Lord Derby refuses to sanction the annexation of Samoa. Rome, Jan. 8. The Italian Government have decided to garrison its station at Assab, in the Red Sea. Cairo, Jan. 8. Telegrams from Korti state that the Black Watch (Ist Battalion Royal Highlanders) have arrived at Korti, and proeeed to Merawi to-morrow. The latest telegrams from Korti state that Colonel S, H. Stewart started today for Gakdul with the 19th Hussars, the camel corps, the Sussex regiment and the Naval Brigade. At Gakdul the Sussex regiment remain to hold the position and protect the wells. The Guards, who are now at Gakdul, will then join the other troops under Colonel Stewart, and the force will then proceed to El Meleraeneh, as previously arranged . Capetown, Jan. 9. The s.s, Aorangi, with the New Zealand mails, dated London, Dec. 29th, sailed for New Zealand to-day. Washington, Jan. 9. The Foreign Committee of the Senate has reported in favor of ratifying the treaty with Nicaragua, for the establishing of control over the Panama Canal, notwithstanding the objections which were made thereto by the British Government. The projected annexation ot Samoa by the New Zealand Government excites deep interest here, A priv ate telegram has been received here, stating that the German Consul at Samoa has concluded a treaty with the King in terms of which three seats in the Council are allotted to German subjects with increased influence.
