CRICKET.

The match between Auckland and Otago concluded at Christchurch on Thursday, the former winning with 4 wickets to spare. The following are the scores : Auckland : First innings, 83 ; second do, 95 ; total, 178. Otago : First innings, 141; second do, 35 ; total, 176. TIMARU HERALD 0.0. F. TEMUKA Y.M.C.C. A match between the above clubs was f layed in the Temuka Park on Saturday last, ihe wickets being pitched at 2.30. It was arranged that should the play not be concluded by 5.15 p.m. the wickets should be drawn, and the match decided on the first innings, but owing to a misunderstanding this agreement was not adhered to and this altered the result of the game. The bowling on either side was exceptionally good, and this in part accounts for the lowness of the scores. The bat form exhibited, however, was not at all first-class. The number of the extras credited to the Timaru team in their second innings should be noted, and certainly shows loose play on the part of the Temuka team. Mr John Morris umpired for Timaru and Mr J. J. Heap for Temuka. Mr Norrie captained the Herald team, and Mr Jas. Ogilvie the Temuka one. At the conclusion of the match, three cheers were called for by the Temuka Captain for the Timaru team and were heartily given, and the latter team paid a similar compliment to their opponents, a strong wish being expressed that future matches might take place between the Clubs. Refreshments were provided by the local team, and were greatly appreciated. The following are the scores ; T.T.M.O.C.
