SOUTH CANTERBURY CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
The annual gathering tinder the auspices of this Society commenced at Timaru on New Year's Day, the attendance, despite the threatening weather in the moruing, being very large, fully 3000 persons being on the ground. The country visitors were many, though doubtless many more would have been present had the day worn a more promising aspect. The sports were held on the S.C. Amateur Athletic Society's ground, which, despite the recent heavy weather, was in verv good condition, but for popular sports it is too far from the to'vn.
