Starter— Mr J. Bull. Clerk of the Course— Mr Mr ‘S. Rae. Handicappeb —Mr D. McKenzie. Secretary and Treasurer—Mr A. Rae. J . The second annual race meeting held at the Eangitata Bridge came off on Boxing Day. The day, which was very warm in the morning, turned out anything but pleasant for a race meeting.. A heavy thunder shower came up along the hills, and gradually spread out across the plains, heavy rain commencing to fall about 2 o’clock and continuing till late in the afternoon. The course was rough and dry in the morning, and when the rain fell it got very heavy, but. owing to the sandy nature of the soil, not slippery. About a hundred people were oh the ground, and many of them, deceived by, the line appearance of the morning, 'did hot bring overcoats, and had to put up with a soaking or leave for home. While the Handicap Hurdle Race was being run someone;put up a bar where a

hurdle had been knocked down, thereby can sine a horse to baulk which stood a good show to win the race. Even if there is no rule bearing on this matter it ta an understood thing that no hurdle shall be put up during a race when once knocked down, and men who are attending to the course at a race meeting should be informed of this. The meeting was a most fortunate one, taking into consideration the state of the coarse, only one slight accident occurring, a boy being knocked down through a horse swerving off the course.
