SOUTH CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB SPRING MEETING. The first Spring Meeting under the auspices of the South CanterburyJockey Club took place on Tuesday last. The weather was fine. A public holiday was proclaimed in Timaru, but not more than 600 spectators assembled on the course. The meeting passed off very pleasantly, with the exception that in the District Race, Mitchell, the rider of one of the horses (Spofforth) was thrown heavily, and when picked up was found to be Buffering from concussion of the brain. He was removed tu the hospital. There were two totalisators on the ground, but not much money passed through them, and the dividends were small.
