CONFIRMATION SERVICES.
The Most Rev, the Primate arrived in Temuka yesterday by the express train from Christchurch, and held a confirmation service in St. Saviour’s Church, at 7 p.m. There was a large congregation, and there were 13 candidates for confirmation. The ceremony commenced by the candidates marching in processional order two and two into the church, while the processional hymn, “Onward Christain Soldiers,” was sung by the whole congregation. The Rev. Mr Hamilton, Incumbent of the Parish, then read the Litany’, after which the ceremony of baptising a child was performed. A hymn was then sung, and the Bishop gave an eloquent and instructive address to the candidates for confirmation. He referred to the baptismal ceremony which they had just witnessed, and reminded them that they were now going to be confirmed in the vows which had been made on their behalf at their baptism. The candidates were then confirmed, and the Bishop again addressed them at length and eloquently, and in the course of his remarks dwelt impressively on the uselessness of baptism and confirmation unless they’ gave themselves up to God. It was presumption to say they were saved ; they must al ways realise that they were sinners and endeavor to do God’s will by prayer and by frequent partaking of the Sacrament. After singing hymn 271 the Bishop pronounced the Benediction, and the ceremony terminated.
