A WEEKLY HALF-HOLIDAY.
TO THE EDITOR. g IR Looking over the telegrams in a contemporary this morning I confess I was gratified to find that the tradesmen in Wanganui had decided on giving their employees a half day holiday •during the week. This, sir, is a step in the right direction, and the thought naturally suggests itself : Cannot we , without in any way conflicting with the intere&ts of our employers, obtain a like concession ? Movements in this direction are being made in almost every town in the colony, and almost invariably with success. It is, I feel assured," unnecessary to point out the advantages to be derived by both masters and servants from such a proposal, but I think it may be fairly assumed that a weekly half-holiday be a mutually profitable source of enjoyment, as none c»n deny that in tbese especially trying tim« masters require, if anything, more recreation than their employees, and although they may at first consider such a proposal a radical one, I am persuaded that before the end of the summer our employers would be found most reluctant to revert to the old order of things. In order to arrive at some practical consummation of the above proposal I shall be happy to confer with my fellow employees, and for such a purpose you are at liberty to disclose my name to any bona fide enquirer.—l am, etc., CIERICUS, T«muka, Nov. 21,1884.
