GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
Ibe usual fortnightly meeting of the Board was held in their new office on Wednesday evening. Present —Messrs R. H. Pearpoint (Chairman), fluffey, Mundell, Maslin, Farrell, Dunlop, and Taylor. MINUTES. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered : From Mr A. Sherratt, asking the Board to put down concrete kerbing in front of his property, and offering to pay half the cost.—Resolved—" That Mr A. Sherratt's application for kerbing be granted."
From Mr W. C. Andrews, with reference to his salary as Inspector of Nuisances. —Resolved—" That as the Board did not employ Mr Andrews as Inspector of Nuisances, they cannot entertaiD his application." From Mr W. Powell, enclosing price of an office book case.
From Mr Hamersley, asking for information re award. WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee reported that the Cemetery Road required to be ploughed up and re-formed, the ditch on the south-west side filled in and a footpath formed as far as the main entrance to the cemetery. The culvert at Mundell's is too small to carry off flood water, and a new and larger one is required. The grating at the junction of Talbot and High Streets requires raising. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Maslin seconded by Mr Taylor—" Thai the Works Committee's report on the Cemetery Road be referred back to them to make further suggestions thereon." Resolved—'• That the report on the culvert at Mundell's be adopted, and that tenders be called for a new culvert 2\ feet in diameter, the size recommended by the Overseer." Resolved—" That the Works Committee see to the necessary alteration to grating at the junction of High and Talbot Streets being carried out." * (The Works Committee was instructed to procure chairs, lamps, and other necessaries for the Board's new office, and also to call for tenders for an office cupboard and bookcase. overseer's report. The Overseer's report on the works in progress was read . He also reported that Geo. Ward had exceeded bis time for contract No. 1 by four weeks, the penalty being at the rate of £1 per week. Resolved—" That the penalty according to the conditions of the contract be inflicted." I INFRINGEMENT OV BY-LAWS. Mr Maslin drew the attention of the Board to the gorse growing in the creek through Stevens's property, thereby causing flood water to overflow on to adjoining propertiep, and to the fact that several persons allowed their fences to overhang the footpaths and obstruct traffic—Resolved—" That the Clerk be instructed to give notice to owners of properties who have allowed their fences to grow over the footpaths to have the obstruction cleared away, and that he also write to Mr Stevens re the gorse growing in the creek through his property. TENDERS. The following tenders were opened and considered : Contract No, 6 Picking stones off Main Road—Thos. Gaiger, £25 ; Thos. Moore, £2O ; T. Faul, £l9 14s j Thos. Grindall, £l7 ; Thos. Addis, £l6 ; H. Newport, £ls 17s 6d ; A. Cole, £l4 (accepted), i Contract No. 7— Gravelling footpaths, Lower Township.—James Beckr ley, L 47 18s ; D. Gregan, L 47 ; J. T. Ward, L 47 5s ; G. Ward, £43 13s 5d ; A. Coles, £39 ; W. Lewis and Co., L3l 17s lid.
It was resolved tfast Jjewis and Co.'s tender be accepted, but failing their taking it up the contract to be let to the next lowest tenderer.
Contact No. 9—Re-forming footpaths and grayelljng High Street—J. T. Ward, L 33 17s 6d D. Gregan, L3l 14s ; Jas. Beckley, L3 V Q (accepted).
The tenders for contract No, 8 were not opened, the contract taking in the
improvements tn the Cemetery Road, vihich the Works Committee are to further report upon. MISCELLANEOUS. It was resolved that the Chairman endeavor to obtain a roadway to give access to the riverbed near Mr Howard's place for the purpose of getting shingle. Mr John Pye applied for, and was granted, a license to sell milk and vegetables within the Town District. The Chairman's action re obtaining building for office was approved of by the Board. ACCOUNTS. After passing an account for £1 5", for rent of room in the Mechanics' Institute, the Board adjourned.
