At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday, 302 head of fat cattle were yarded ; quality for most part good to prime. The supply proved greatly in excess of requirements, and the consequences were dragging sales and a decline from values of last week of 6s to 7s fid per 1001 b. Best bullocks sold at £8 10s to £lO 15s ; cows up to £8 17s fid, and quotations for prime beef 21s fid per 1001 b. Mr L. Maclean sold on account of Mr J. Page (Temuka) 24 head bullocks and cows at— for bullocks up to £9 15s, cows up to £8 5s ; for Mr M. Quinn (Temuka) 18 head bullocks, up to £lO 10s. Fat Calves—2s at from 6s to 16s each. Fat Sheep—Quotations for mutton, 3d to per lb. Fat lambs —Best lambs brought from 12s 9d to 13s fid ; others, 6a fid to 12s. Pigs—Porkers, 22s fid to 425; bacon pigs, 49s to 755. Store cattle—Several transactions have transpired at from £5 10s to £6 10s for large-framed quiet bullocks ; others, £3 10s to £5. Sheepskins— Green crossbreds, 4s to 5s lid ; fine halfbreds, 5s 3d to 5s IQd j dry do, Is fid to 5s 9d; green merinos, 3s fid to 5s }ld ; dry do, Is 4d to 5s fid ; country skips in bales, B§d to 5Jd per lb j lambskins, fid to lid ; pelts, 5d to fid. Hides—Those in clean condition, free from cuts, and weighing from 351 b to 451 b, 3d; 461 bto 551 b, 3jd to 3*d ; 6filb to 601 b, 3|d to 4jd ; over 601 b, 4|d to 4|d per lb. Tallow—lnferior and mixed, 10s to 21a fid ; medium, 22s fid 25s ; good to prime, 26s to 28s; rough fat, 15s fid to 20s. Wheat—Demand by no means active. There are occasional inquiries for small lots of prime quality for mixing, white yelvet being most sought for. At a grain sale in Christchurch, held on the 24th inst. by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, 2s 9d, had to be accepted for prime milling, 2s to 2s 3d for good seconds, and Is 8d to Is lOd for fair chick wheat (ax store). Hero quotations are ] Choicest milling, 3s fid to 3s 7d I ordinary, 3s 3.d to 3s 5d ; inferior to medium, at rates varying from Is fid to 3a per bushel, Sales at auction of fowl feed have been made—29o bushels at 2s, 300 do at 2s 3d, 250 do at 2s 4d, and 700 do at 2a 5d (e* stmre). O^ts —The tone of the market is easier, but as deliveries have been limited, last week’s quotations have been sustained. Prime milling is worth 2s 9d to 2s 10d ; bright feed, 2« 9d to 2s 9£d ; medium, 2a 7sd to 2a 8d ; Danish and long Tartarian, 2s to 2s fid per bushel, Ejarley—No transactions, Feed is wprth 2s fid per bushel. Potatoes —Increased supplies forward, and prices easier.

Grass Seed Very slight demand. Quotations unaltered.
