A DENIAL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Permit me to say, on behalf of Miss McClellan that she sent you no such advertisement as that which you gave in your last issue with regard to her. It is regrettable that you did not perceive that it must have been a nasty hoax, and so refuse it insertion in your paper, for I’m sura you would not like to be a tool in bringing the blush of shame to any respectable girl. He or she who would play so dirty a joke must be both cat-beaded and vicious-hearted. Would you know, sir, how I should have the individual treated who sent that advertisement, signing it with Miss McClellan’s name ? I would have such a one first publicly branded as a blackguard, and then whipped through the long street of Geraldine.—l am, etc., Thos. Keane, Catholic Pastor. St. Mary’s at the Bush, Geraldine.

[We regret very much having published the advertisement, but we did so in good faith, believing it to be lona fide. We knew nothing of either Miss McClelland or the other person referred to, and consequently could not knotv that the matter had any significance other than that usually attached to such things. Advertisements inquiring for missing friends are frequently inserted, and we, of course, thought it was one of this kind. We quite agree with the Rev. Father Keane that the joke was a cowardly and contemptible one, deserving of the reprobation qf every one. We shall be happy to give up the letter, if Miss McClelland or any of her friends desire it.— The Editor.]
