GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary monthly meeting'of the Committee was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening. Present— Messrs R. H. Pearpoint (Chairman), Cunningham, Dunlop, Farrell, A. Sherratt and G. Ward. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read : From the Secretary to the Board of Education, in reply to a letter from the Chairman, stating that the Inspector would visit the school for examination some time about the beginning of December. From the manager of the Timarn Boole and Stationery Depbt advising tin* Committee of his new stock of school prize books. The School Fence sub-Committee appointed at last meeting to inspect the fences round the school grounds reported it to be in a condition beyond repair.
After some discussion the same Committee were reappointed to obtain an estimate of the cost of a new or partially new fence. VISITING COMMITTEE’S REPORT.
The visitors for the past month reported an attendance of 187 pupils in the morning, with a considerable falling off in the afternoon ; and that parents did
not take steps to insure a better attendance in accordance with notices sent to them. The visitors also drew the attention of the Committee to some necessary repairs to the plaster in one of the rooms of the school.
The Chairman said he had spoken to the Head Master about the non-atten-dance of some of the children, and it wa* decided that if there was no improvement the Board of Education would be notified of the matter. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT, The Head Master reported an average daily attendance of 173 for the' month. He also asked leave of absence to,attend an examination to be held, in j Christchurch this month. LEAVE OP ABSENCE. Mr Hughes waited on the Committee and stated that as his absence would break into two weeks, viz., from Wednesday till the following one, it was for the Committee to decide whether the school should be kept open during that period or not. It was unanimously resolved that leave of absence be granted as requested. It was further resolved that the school be kept open from the Wednesday till Saturday and then closed till the-Head Master’s return. TESTIMONIAL TO MR F. BBTHUNK. Mr Ward drew the attention, of the Committee to the fact that Mr Betbnne, lately of the school staff, had not yet received his promised testimonial. The Chairman stated that no application had been made to him for it. ' i "" ! On the motion of' Mr Sherratt, it was unanimously resolved —“ That a testimonial be forwarded to Mr Bethnne.” VISITING COMMITTEE. The Chairman and Messrs Dunlop and Sherratt, the snb-Committee appointed to see to the fencing repairs, were chosen visitors for the month.' ACCOUNTS. An account for 10s was passed for payment and the Committee adjourned,
