SHORTING.

GERALDINE RACES,

(Tips by Day Dawn)

Tuesday morning last being nice and mild for work I took a stroll over to the Geraldine Racing Club’s course at Orari to see the horses performing that had been entered for Thursday and Friday’s races. The first to put in an appearance was Hammond with Mr W. H. Walton’s Sefton. .who was treated to a mile and a half at half pace. Ihe next to turn up was Simson, who sent Mr 0. Matthews’s Mermaid three times round the course : the first time steady, and the second and third times at a good pace, and the mare appeared to go well. After this Mr R. Henry’s In a was sent twice round, finishing the last half mile at a fast pace. Mr Deßenzy’s Maroon went twice round at half pace, and seemed to move very freely. I think she has got a show in the Maiden, hut I cannot fancy her so much for the Handicap, as Barbary being thrown in with lOst lOlbs I should think he ought to win. My fancy for the coming events are as follows : MAIDEN HURDLES. King Arthur ... ... 1 Mermaid ... ... 2 MAIDEN PLATE. Gaiters ... ... ... 1 Tale Bearer ... ... 2 G. R, C. HANDICiP, Vanguard ... ... 1 ■ Tim Whiffler ... ... 2 SIRES PRODUCE STAKES. Ina ... ... ... 1 All Fours ... ... 2 ladies’ purse. Tale Bearer ... ... 1 Comet ... ... ... 2 handicap hurdles. Barbary ... ... ... 1 Gaiters ... ... ... 2 GERALDINE CUP. Tasman ... ... ... 1 Vanguard ... ... 2 COUNTY PLATE. Temuka ... ... ... 1 Trump ... ... . 2 FLYING HANDICAP, Minerva... ... ... 1 Rubina ... ... ... 2
