Agamemnon (ironclad) has been ordered to proceed to China, to reinforce the squadron under ViceAdmiral Sir William Howell. An Hawaiian Prince, who . has been studying at Naples, was seized with cholera, and the case terminated fatally. Sir Stafford Northcote’s speeches in Midlothian have been well received. The Merchant Shipping and Underwriters’ Association report the arrival ef ihe ship Waimea from Napier (left June 10th) and the barque Supreme from fimaru (left May 23rd). St. Petersburg, Sept. 16. The German, Austrian and ; Russian Imperial Chancellors had a lengthy conference to-day, but the nature of the proceedings which took place at the interview has not transpired. In its issue to-day the Journal de St, Petersburg publishes an article on the meeting of the three Emperors at Warsaw, in the course of which it states that while the reunion of their Majesties will have the effect of strengthening the entente cordiale already existing between Germany, Austria and Russia, there is no intention of entering into closer diplomatic relations or of forming a fresh tripartite alliance. One of the principal questions which will be brought up for consideration, the Journal adds, will be the spread of anarchy in Europe, and the necessity for concerting to pass measures for the defence of law and order. Sept. 17. The meeting between the Emperors at Skeirniewitz is concluded. Their Majesties have separated, and the Emperors William and Francis Joseph started for Berlin and Vienna respectively. Intending tenderers complain of the delay in deciding the price of the New South Wales Loan. The frozen meat ex Ruapehu is realis ing 5d per lb. Sept. 18. General Gordon reproaches the British Government for causing the present evils in the Soudan, and states that he intends to burn Berber and surrender the Soudan to the Sultan of Turkey when the Turkish troops arrive. The Rcpublique Francaise predicts that Imperial federation will eventually ruin England. General Gordon Las defeated the rebels at Halfies (sic). King Leopold of Belgium refuses to veto the School Bill. The cholera in Naples is gradually abating. Paris, Sept. 16.
The Temps announces in to-day’fi issue that the majority of the French troops now serving in Tunis will be recalled at an early date. Cairo, Sept, 16.
Lord .Wolselej is busy organising the projected expedition to Khaitoum, and, in connection therewith, be has ordered the formation of a camel corps, consisting of equal detachments of Guards and of Household and other cavalry. Sept. 17.
Telegrams are to hand, reporting that a battle has been fought near Souakim, between friendly Arabs and a tribe of rebel Hedendowas, and that the latter met with a decisive defeat at the hands of the friendlies.
The Nile continues to rise, and the first of the steamers intended for the transport of troops has successfully passed the second cataract at Wady Haifa.
A despatch from General Gordon, dated Khartoum, August 26th, has been received here by telegraph from the Nubian frontier. In the despatch General Gordon states that he is awaiting the arrival of the British troops in the Soudan, and again requests that Zebuhr Pasha may be sent to him, and £300,000 sterling. General Gordon also announces that the commands the road from Khartoum to Berber, and that he intends to despatch a force to occupy the latter place in a few days from the date of bis despatch.
