GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board was held on Wednesday evening last. Members present Messrs Farrell, Huffey, Dunlop, Maslin, Taylor and Mundell. Owing to the Chairman (Mr Pearpoint) being absent through illness, Mr Maslin was voted to the chair. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. OUTWARD CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence outwards was read as follows : To the Geraldine Road Board, re the public pound. To the same, in reference to the deeds of roads dedicated to the Queen, CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED. From the Geraldine Road Board in reply to letter re deeds of roads dedicated, stating that the Board only had two of the deeds in their possession. The Chairman remarked that the Board must have more than two deeds, for be had himself paid them the amount required for the road in Ins township. The Clerk said be remembered the time well when that was done, as well as for Healey’s and Kallaugher’s township. The Clerk was instructed to write again to the Board on the subject. Proposed by Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Farrell and carried—“ That the deeds of roads be placed in the hands of the Bank of New Zealand for safe custody.” From the Geraldine County Council, in reply to the letter forwarded re dog collars, and intimating that the Council consented to the intimation contained therein. From the sfime, stating that section 32 of the Town Districts Act did not imply the repairing of the main road. From Mr W. Eolleston, M.H.R., intimating receipt of letter from the Board re reserves and stating that the subject would have his attention.—The receipt of the letter to be acknowledged. WORKS COMMITTEE. Mr Dunlop reported that the Chairman and himself met a few evenings ago and bad seen Mr Cunningham re the right of way to the new premises of the Bank of New Zealand who said the Bank would fbear the expense the pitch crossing amounting to £1 10s. Proposed by Mr Huffey, seconded by Mr Taylor and carried —“ That the report of the Works Committee be adopted.” ACCOUNTS, Accounts amounting to £ll 1 Os 7d were passed for payment, THE ARBITRATION CASE. A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary intimating that Mr J. Ollivier bad been appointed arbitrator by the Governor to adjust the financial arrange-
men Is between the Geraldine Road Board and the Town Board. TENDERS. The clerk slated that tenders for printing the Town By-laws Nos. 1 and 2, had been received from the following offices :—Press (Christchurch) ; Mills, Dick and Co. (Dunedin) ; Timaru Herald, and the Geraldine Guardian office. The tender of the Guardian, being by far the lowest, was accepted. The Clerk also stated that he had caused the By-laws to be inserted in the Geraldine Guardian, and that on receipt of a letter from the Colonial Secretary they Wuuld become law. In reply to a question, put by Mr Mundell the chairman said it was necessary, according to the Act, that the whole of the By-laws should be advertised, He also read the clause of the Act referring to the same. Tenders were opened for X 3 contract — Lowering footje'hs in Peel street and Waihi Terrace road : James Bsckley, ±.12 10s ; G. Ward, £9 12s. On the motion of Mr Taylor, eoconded by Mr Farrell, the tender of G. Ward was accepted. carrier’s licenses. This matter was held over for discussion till next meeting. overseer’s report. The repoft dealt with matters relating to work done, and in hand. He referred to his former report cm the bad state of the footpath on the north-west side of Jollie street near the Bank of New South Wales. It was decided that tenders should be called for the work, to be laid before the next meeting of the Board ; also tenders to be called for shingle at per yard to be delivered at each of the newly-formed footpaths. miscellaneous. Mr Mundell asked if it were known as to when the arbitration case would come on ? The Chairman replied that nothing was known at present. It entirely depended on the arbitrator himself. Messrs Taylor, Dunlop and the Chairman were re-appointed a Works Committee for the ensuing month. It was decided that the three-inch pipes by Messrs Mundell and Co’s premises should be taken up and larger ones put in their place, A circular was received from Mr Wilfred Badger, Christchurch, asking for certain information in regard to the town, for insertion in his work shortly to be published. It was left with the Clerk to supply the information required. The meeting then terminated.
