TEMUKA YOUNG MEN'S CLUB.

On Thursday evening last the third debate was held in the Club room. The Rev. Mr Hamilton occupied the chair, and 30 members were present. Thursday evening is now looked forward to with great interest by all the members of the Club, and the hearty manner in which they look up this debate shows that they are carrying out the first half of their motto. The subject taken was “ War versus Peace.” Mr J. Russell took the “ war path ” and Mr J. Langridge the “path of peace.” Both treated the subject ably. Several other members followed, and after a lively debate the Chairman summed up the speeches briefly and put it to the meeting, the result being—for Peace, 15 ; for War, 7- Eight members declined to vote on either side. The meeting then adjourned until next Thursday evening, when essays will be read on “ Recreation,” which will be folio.ved by a Spelling Bee. After the debate was over a meeting of the members were held, and it was decided to hold sports on the Prince of Wales’birthday. A. Committee was formed to draw up a programme by next meeting. As all the Cricket Committee was present a meeting was held. Mr E. Whitehead consented to act as Secretary and Treasurer. Mr O’Halloran reported that he had seen the Chairman of the Domain Board re the ground for practice, and that he had kindly consented to allow the Club to use it. It was proposed that the name of Club be the “Temuka Young Men’s Cricket Club.” Mr Lucas was asked to get a price list of cricket materials, which he consented to do. It was resolved that the first practice be held on Saturday, the 27th inst,, at 3 p.m. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
