ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Sept. 11

At the instance of the Spanish government, parleying has been renewed with a view to the conclusion of the Anglo-Spanish Commercial Treaty. Shaw-Sarill's steamer Tainui and the New Zealand Shipping Company's Kaikoura have been successfully launched.

Lord Roseberry, speaking at Aberdeen, said he feared that England was allowing, her Colonial Empire to; drift away from her. Intelligence has been received of a battle recently lought at Ambukol, near Dongola, between the Egyptian troops under the Mudir and a large body of rebels, led by two of the Mahii's chief Ameers. The cholera epidemic is now materially abating here. Hopes are entertained that a further spread has been stopped. Brussels, Sept. 10. The bitter feeling existing between the Clerical and Liberal parties is now most intense, and the reserves have been called out to maintain order, seiious disturbances being feared, ami strong bodies of soldiers and police have been stationed in various parts cf the city. The New Zealand Shipping Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram, dated Loudon, 11th September-:—" Doric, s.e., sailed from Teneriffe on sth September. Calls at Cape of Good Hope, and first port of call in New Zealand will be Wellington." ♦ AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Sydney, Sept. 12. A sculling match has been arranged between Beach and Clifford for £2OOO a-side and the championship of the world. The match will be rowed on February 28th on the Paramatta river. Sepr. 13. Another case of smallpox has broken out in the city. Twelve persons are now suffering from the disease. Hanlan has challenged Beach to row within seven months, for the championship of the world. Melbourne, Sept, 14. Arrived—Steamship Shannon this morning, with the inward Brindisi mails dated London, August Bth. Adelaide, Sept. 12. Two others of the party of miners who were attacked by the natives of th« I Northern Territory have since died of the injuries received. The tribes of Blacks in the neighborhood of the Alice Springs are now proving troublesome.
