AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS. GEEALDINE. Messrs J. Mundell aDd Co. repoit Bales for the week anding Saturday, 6th Sept., 1884 : At the monthly sale of stock in the Geraldine Saleyards on Monday, the entries were small, but »ve have to report a clearauce of every lot submitted to auction, at the following prices, viz.— Crossbred sheep (fat), 16s ; merino ewes (with lambs at foot), 8s 7d ; merino ewes (in lamb to long-wcolled rams), 6s 9d. Store pigs, 288. Ccws (upringing), £4 2s 6d ; three-year-old steers (forward stores), £3 17s 6d; two-year-old steers and heifeis, £2 10s. After the sale of stock wo sold, on account of a client, draught horses, drays, harness, etc., etc., for which we found sales hard to effect at anything like owners' expectations. At the Winchester Fair on Thursday only a small supply of stock came forward for the day's sale, but, little though it was, it proved equal to the demand, especially in sheep. In store sattle the demand has increased, and with it an improvement in value. Of our entries we sold 1 cow (springing) at £6 2s 6d ; 3 three-year-old steers and heifers at £4 2s 6d ; 6 two-year-olds at £3. During the week we have sold privately 130 store cattle (two and three-year-old) at a considerable advance on rates lately ruling, with an increasing demand for this class of stock. TIMARU Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the paat week ending Saturday as follows : Horses—They have again to report a scarcity of good horses at their yards today. For these there is a fair demand, and good psices are obtainable. There entries to-day were such as call for no Bpecial mention ; only a few were offered, and these were principally old and inferior sorts, for which there is almost no enquiry. Sheep—At the Studholme Junction monthly sale, held last Monday, they sold 300 merino ewes at 8s 3d »nd 200 crossbred hoggets at 9s lOd. At the Winchester Fair last Thursday their entries were small, and no transactions of importance were made, iat sheep are keeping in good price, and any good lots offering are quickly poked U P- The y <l uotß pnma mutton at about 3d per lb, at which quotation they have privately sold a good few lots. Cattle—There has been littlo doing m store cattle during the week. They have no transactions to report. Fat cattle are rather in better demand, buyers from a distance having been looking at and purchasing some of the largo j lines. They quote values at about 17s 6d per lOOlbs. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, Sept. 5. _ New Zealand whent, per bushel, is worth 4s 3d ; New Zealand oats, 2s 8d ; maize, 4s 6d. Adelaide, Sept. 5. The wheat market is quiet, and nothing is doing. To-day's quotations are—Adelaide, 3s 7d to 3s 8d ; at outports, 3s 4d to 4s 5d ; town flour brands, £8 17s 6d ; country do, £7 17s 6d. There is no change to report in freights. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Sept. 4. At to-day'B wool auction sales, 9300 bales were catalogued, and a firm tone prevailed. Sydney fleece wools are now irregular. Up to date 18,250 bales have been withdrawn from sale out of 225,000 catalogued. Sept. 5. Colonial breadstuffs continue at the following prices, ex store : —Adelaide wheat 38s; New Zealand, 34s to 38s. Adelaide flour, 275. The total quantity of wheat afloat for

the United Kingdom is 1,860,000 quarters. Tallow—Australian of average quality, beef, 35s 6d ; mutton, 365. Sept. 6.

At to-day's wool auction 11,000 hales were catalogued. The tone of the sale was again firm. Australian wheat cargoes on the passage are quoted at 35s ; off coast cargoes 6d less. The market is quiet, and the demand is inactive. Later. At the wool sales to-day soft smallhaired greasy realised from £d to Id above the June "closing rates. Croßsbreds, superfine and Sydney, Queensland, and vVe»tern Australian greasy wools are much firmer. Hough illbreda are easier. Two hundred and forty-six thousand bales were catalogued, of which fourteen thousand were withdrawn.
