ANGLING SOCIETY.
A meeting was held last night in the Royal Hotel, Temuka, for the purpose of forming an Angling Society. About sixteen persons were present, and Mr K. F. Gray was voted to the chair. A letter was received from Mr McWilliams, enclosing copy of the rules of the Canterbury Angling Society. Letters were also read from Messrs Archer and Godby regretting their inability to attend, and stating they would do all they could to forward the interests of the Society.
Mr Findlay proposed- " That the time has arrived when it is desirable that an Angling Society should be formed in South Canterbury, having for its object the preservation u! imported fish in the varims etreamß in the district, and to encourage a fe ling of emulation in the art of angling amongst the members of the Society." Mr Nicholas seconded the motion, which was carried. ]fc was also resolvod—" That the name of the Slcifty be 'the Geraldine County Angling Society." Mr Findlay proposed—" That the omcers of the Society consist of a President, two Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer (oinbined), and seven Committeemen, five to form a quorum." On the motion of Mr Aspinall, seconded by Mr Nicholas, Mr A. M. Clark wns elected President. The following were then elected: —Tice-Presidents, Messrs Archer and Deßenzy ; Secretary and Treasurer, MiMason ; Committee, Messrs Inwood, Young, Findlay, Gray, Aspinall, Nicholas and l)r Hayes. On the motion of Mr Findlay, it was resol T ed—" That tbe annual subscription of members be 55."
On the motion of Mr Findlay, it was resolved—" That Messrs Aspinall, Gray, Mason ar.d the mover be a Sub-Committee to draw up rules, etc., and submit them to a meeting to be held on Monday next." Mr A. M. Clark moved—" That an expression of opinion of this meeting as to the advisability of forming an Acclimatisation Societv for this district be taken." The motion was carried, and after some discussion Mr Gray gave notice that he would bring the subject forward for discussion next Monday. Mr Findlay proposed—" That the Society petition the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society to have the fishing season opened on the first of October, and Dr Hayes and Mr Aspinall be appointed a deputation to represent the matter to the South Canterbury Society." The motion wa 8 seconded by Mr A. M. Clark, and carried. Tfce usual compliment to the Chairman terminated the meeting.
