LoNDOJf, August 12

The third of the year's series of colonial wool auctions opened to-day, before a large attendance of Home and foreign bnyers. The opening catalogue comprised 8700 bales, for which a very fair demand was manifested, croosbreds selling rather higher than at the close of last auctions. The quantity of wool to be offered during the series is limited to 334,000 bales. The sales will close in September. Frozen meat, ex Potosi, is selling at 4id to 4|d. Owing to the excessive hest experienced here, the market is somewhat depressed. August 13.

Adelaide wheat, ex store, 395; New Zealand ditto, 343 to 40s. Adelaide flour, ex store, 275. Australian ttJlow Average quality beef, 34s 6d ; ditto rrutton, 34s 6d. At the wool sale to-day, 10,500 bales were catalogued. A firm and active demand was experienced.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company has received the following cable, dated August 12th, from London branch : Wool The sales opened to-day at the level of la?t series. Market for crossbred firmer. The sales comprise about 300,000 bales; 36,000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. Ihe opening catalogue contained 8700 bales, and was a fairly representative one.
