DUNEDIN MARKETS

Messrs Donald Reid and Co. report for the week ending July 23rd, as follows Grain—Wheat : We have little alteration to report, best milling qualities finding a ready sale, but prices are in no way changed • 3s 2d to 3s 4d are the ruling rates for these sorts. In medium and inferior, most of the arrivals, if free from frost or sprout, have found buyers at prices ranging from 2s 6d to 3s Id. A considerable portion, however, of the week’s arrivals have been damaged with frost, it is not saleable at anything beyond chick-feed rates—say ls9d to 2s 6d. Our week’s sales have been 7190 bushels. Oats : In the absence of bright feed and milling, of which the market is now quite cleaned out, there have been some demand for best-colored parcels of spirrowhills for shipment, while as yet oilier feeding sorts lemain dull of sale, and stocks in store are exceptionally large ; Danish and other long oats are still uninquired for. We quote bright feed 2s to 2s Oid, extra do milling 2s Id to 2s IJd, ordinary feed Is 10id to Is lid, dark and inferior Is B|d to“ls lOd. Our week’s sales are 9045 bushels. Barley; No bright offering ; discolored is in full supply, with little sale beyond feeding requirements. Potatoes are coming to hand plentifully. Best samples fetch 52s 6d to 55s ; others 50s per ton. —yfe bavo mud 6 a few salos (600 bushels) of farmers samples at 3s to 3s lid per bushel. Mr Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for the week ending July 23 as follows : Fat Cattle—We sold bullocks at from £5 17« 6d to £9 7s 6d, heifers at £5 17s 6d ; and quote prime beef 22s 6d to 255, ordinary 17s 6d to 20s per lOOlbs. Fat Sheep—We sold crossbred ewes at 15s 6d, wethers at 12s to 15s ; and quote mutton 2|d to 3d per lb. Fat Pigs—l 39 were penned. Competition was not very strong, and prices obtained lately were not reached. The range was 20s to 745.
