DISTRICT COURT.
TIMARU YESTERDAY. (Before Hia Honor Judge W.nl) CIVIL CASES. R. Turnbull v. H. L. Forster, claim £26 ils. Mr White for plaintiff, Mr Hamersley for defendant. The case was adjourned from last sitting. Since that time, the plaintiff’s counsel had given notice of discontinuance. Mr Hamersley now applied for full costs in the case. Granted. J. flayhurst v- R. Lavery, claim £147 for rent. Mr White for plaintiff. In this case Mr White applied for an adjournment till Saturday, for the purpose of procuring an office copy of the ground lease, which was deposited in the Land Transfer Office. Adjournment granted. Jas. Streeter v. Matthew Wightman and another, claim £3B 16s 3d for work none. Mr White for plaintiff, Mr Hamersley for defendant, Mr Hamersley stated that this case had been settled out of Court, IN BANKRUPTCY. J. McCormick appeared for public examination. The bankrupt on being questioned as to a cow, cart and harness, said they belonged to his wife. Receipts were produced, showing that they were purchased from Patrick Ryan, of whom Hia Honor remarked that “he thought he bad heard the name before.” A horse was also inquired for, and he said it belonged to his son. His Honor adjourned the examination, thinking the matters mentioned would bear further inquiry. Re James Joe. Mr White, instructed by Dr Foster, for tlie bankrupt. The examination was adjourned, the bankrupt not appearing. ' In the following cases the examinations were declared closed George Hegarty (Mr White), C. L. Wiggena (Mr White), H. E. Smith (Mr Perry), Jas. Grant (Mr Lynch), Morris Griffin (Mr Hamersley). The following persons were adjudicated bankrupts on their own application ; Jas. Keen (Mr Tosawill), Win, Lynch Fitzgerald (Mr Hamersley), John Collie (Mr Hamersley). Mr W. C. Beswick was appointed Deputy Assignee, on the application of Mr Knubley. Mr Knubley applied for an order for his costs against the Deputy Assignee, in the case of H. B. Curteis, there having been no assets. AfUr some discussion, His Honor granted the order, on the understanding th it the Deputy Assignee could recover from the Official Assignee, wl'.o could recover from the public accounts. In the cases of H. E. Smith and James Grant, whose examinations were declared closed, (he date tor applying for orders of discharge was fixed for next Court day. An order of discharge was granted to F, J. Noble, on the application of Mr Hamersley, Similar applications by J, C. McKerrow and W. Shephard, being opposed, were adjourned till Saturday. —Times.
