Me Rollkston’s Meetinss. —Mr Rolleston will address the electors in the Temuka Volunteer Hal' on Saturday evening next at 8 o’clock.

Sale at Geraldine.— Mr W. S. Maslin will hold a clearing sale of horses, cattle, carts, spring dray, waggonette, &c. (the property of Messrs Morrison and Dunlop) at bis yards, Geraldine, to-day. Conversion oe N.Z. Stock. —The Government has received a cablegram from the Agent-General stating that a further conversion of New Zealand stock has been negotiated at satifactory prices.

The Unemployed.—Several of the Christchurch unemployed have accepted the Government’s latest offer of work at 4s 6d a day along the railway, with free conveyance by train to and from Chistchurch every day*

Political Meetings. — Mr Franks addresses the electors at Geraldine to-night, and at Waitohi Flat to-morrow night. Mr Twomey addresses the Gladstone electors at Wai-iti to-night, and at Pareora to-morrow night.

Entertainment. —By request, the Temaka Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society will repeat the entertainment given by them in aid of the Temuka Mechanics’ Institute, on Tuesday next at the Volunteer Hall. The prices for admission have been fixed at 2s and Is.

Important Sale. —Messrs Maclean and Stewart will hold an important sale of freehold and leasehold property and live and dead farm stock at the homestead of Mr M. Wightman, Waitohi Elat, to-day. The sale is well worth the attendance of farmers and others.

Sale op a Bun. —The National Mortgage and Agency Company have sold the Glentanner estate, Mackenzie Country, comprising 18,000 acres of freehold, 21,000 acres of leasehold, 13,500 sheep, 65 head of cattle, station, plant, etc., to Mr R. B. Thomson at a satisfactory cash price, which has not been made public. Football. —The Temuka Football Club play , Ashburton . next Saturday in Ashburton. The local team will be chosen from the following : —Messrs J. Yelvin, E. Smith, Blyth, Heap, Ogilvie, P. Thomson, T. Thomson, A. Clinch, J. Clinch, Franks, Dyson, Roberts, Wood, E. Smith, H. Smith, LeCren, Erskine, Lye, Carr and Quit. All are requested to attend the practices every afternoon in the park. The team picked will proceed by first tram.

Fibb in Timabu. — A fire broke out a little before eight o’clock on Tuesday morning at the Education Board’s book depot in the Government Buildings, Everything was destroyed. It was uninsured, and the probable loss is £l5O of the Board’s property, and about the same value of some private property of the Secretary. The fire is supposed to have originated by a spark getting between the mantelpiece and the chimney. The building is damaged with fire and water. Pedestbianism. The quarter mile hurdle race between J. M. O’Connor, the well-known pedestrian, and James McFarlane, of Ashburton, came off on Tuesday at Ashburton, and was won by McFarlane by three yards, in the fastest time yet made in New Zealand, viz,, fiascos. It is understood O’Connor’s backers have arranged for another match with McFarlane, the course to be half mile, flat, and the stakes £SO a side, the race to come off in Timaru on the 19ih inst.

Tha demand for the great American remedy, Hop Bitters, in this part of the world has become so great that the Hop Bitters Co., whose headquarters are at Rochester, New York, U.AA., have been compelled to open a laboratory, in Melbourne It sill be in charge of Mr M. H, Van Bergh, a gentleman of several years’ experience with this Company and the trade may be assured of receiving goods equal to the parent house, and the most courteous treatment. The H.8.C0. have establishments at London, Paris, Antwerp, Belgium, Breda, Holland and Toronto, and their Bitters are probably the best known medicine in the world.

Mr K. F. Gray will hold his monthly stock sale to-morrow.

Tenders for works for the Temuka Road Board close to-day at 1 o’clock. Tenders for building offices for the Temuka Town Board, and for leasing reserves, close to-day at 4 p.m. Mr L. Walker, of Four Peaks Station, notifies that the tender of Mr E. Wilcooks, for ploughing, has been accepted.
