THE NOMINATION FOR GLADSTONE.

The nomination of candidates for the above constituency took place last Tuesday at the Washdyke. Mr W. Stevenson proposed, and Mr R. Hoare seconded, Mr J. H. Sutter. Mr A. Grant proposed Mr J. M, Twomey, and in doing so referred in eulogistic terms to the efforts of the candidate to push things ahead in Temuka. Since he went there three important industries had been started mainly through his efforts. (Cheers,) Mr Thos. Mitchell, of Seadown seconded the nomination. Mr R. Orton proposed, and Mr J. Grant seconded, Mr D. Anderson. Mr T. H. Stocker proposed, and Mr M. O’Connor seconded, Mr G. Morris, The Returning Officer invited the candidates to speak, of w’hich opportunity they availed themselves. Mr Sutter referred at some Ipegth to his past Parliamentary career, and Mr Twomey spoke of his bank , scheme, and hit hemes for wotkiag men.

llj would not mind being rejected, only that people might say that it was his policy that was rejected. It would be a great argument against any one else taking it up. The show of hands resulted as follows Mr Sutter 50 ; MrTwomey 10 ; Mr O. Anderson, 6 and ; Mr G. Morris-all present. The proceedings lasted an hour.
