YOUNG MEN’S CLUB.
A general meeting was held on Tuesday evening, July Ist, in the new Club Rooms. The President (the Ssr. T. A. Hamilton) occupied the chair. The Chairman gave a short speech, briefly commenting on the progress made by the Club, and stating it was very necessary to get a programme fixed for each night in the week, and also to get the assistance of gentlemen who were competent to teach the classes in singlesticks, boxing, gymnastics, etc- The following programme was then pasred as arranged by the Com mittee : Monday evening : Lessons in boxing, singlesticks, dumb-bells. Tuesday evening : Lectures, debates, etc, Wednesday': Christy minstrels, dramatics. Thursday : Social evening. Friday : Chess and draughts. Saturday : Same as Monday. The Rev. T. A. Hamilton kindly offered to instruct a class in fencing and singlesticks on Monday night. Mr Burke proposed and Mr Bolton seconded —“ That the Secretary write to Dr Campbell requesting him to join the club and instruct a class in boxing.” Mr Bolton and Mr Morton kindly offered their services ia giving chess lessons on Friday evening. It was then proposed and Seconded that honorary members be admitted to the Club Rooms on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and that a monthly meeting of all members shall be held on the last Monday of each month at 8 p.m. The following sub-Oommittees were then appointed to manage the different branches of amusement and instruction : Cricket: Rev. T. A. Hamilton, Messri B. D. O’Halloran, A. Clinch and J. Russell. Theatricals : Messrs T. Thomson, Q-. Bolton, and B. Whitehead. Bicycling; Messrs 0. Lucas and T. Thomson. Tennis : Messrs B. D. O’Halloran and S. D. Barker. Football ; Messrs A. Clinch, T. Thomson, J. Langridge and J. Russell. Chess and Draughts: Messrs Bolton, Morton, and Morgridge. Gymnastics ; Left open until a later period. Librarians: Messrs A. Nicholas and J. Langridge. It was then proposed that the Secretary ask several gentlemen to contribute songs, etc., on the social evenings. It was arranged that the Secretary write to Mr John Wood, asking him to give a lecture, to be followed by Mr Bolton with a stump speech on the political affairs of New Zealand in general, and Temuka and Geraldine in particular. The usual vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting.
