A rumor is current in Wellington that Sir Julius Vogel will mitet; Goral dine seat with Mr Bolle.- A rumour is gaining ground that Mr A. Cox will contest the Geraldine seat.
Mr Turnbull is not likely to be returned for Timaru unopposed. Several candidates for the seat are mentioned.
Mr Conolly has issued an address seeking re-election for Picton. He states that although by an unexpected combination a vote of want of confidence was passed, yet bis confident belief is that the vote does not represent the opinion of the country. Mr Downie Stewart will again oppose Mr Dick, for Dunedin West. For Kaiapoi, the Hou. E. Richardson, it is generally thought, will be unopposed,
ROADS AND BRIDGES CON

Wellington, June 19,
A return was laid on' the table of the House this evening in reference to the applications made to the Minister for Public Works under the Roads and Bridges Con ■truction Act during the year ending 31st March, 1884. It appears that on June 30th, 1883, applications for grants in respect of main roads were made to the extent of £224,588, of which £70,681 was granted. For district roads the amount applied for was £28,479, and the sum granted £21,524. Applications for aid to repair extraordinary damages by floods, &c., were made to the extent of £19,825, and £10,282 was granted. The sum of £1417 was granted to repair damages to district roads, the amount applied for being £141 7 . The total applications came to £275,009,and the grants to £ 103,904105, The following are details in connection with the Canterbury applications in 1883 under the Roads and Bridges Cousti notion Act. Main roads—Ashley Itoad Board applied for £1328, received £258. Borough of Kaipoi applied for £3234, received £3234. The Waipnra Road Board’s application was not in terms of the Act, and no grant was made. Akarox County applied for £4OOO, and received £750. Ashburton County applied for £2870, .v.:.: £430. Geraldine County
applied for £2938, received £2938. Wahu.ite County applied for £SOOO, received £IBBO. Loans for district roads — Selwyn County applied for £4300, but the application was not in terms of the Act, and no grant was made. Ashburton County—£l2oo applied for and £I2OO was granted. Applications for aid to repair damages by floods, £c. —Geraldine County applied for £212, and received £l5O. Mackenzie County applied for £363, and was informed that (he application will be cousideied when funds are available. Waimate County applied for £232 and received £135. —Press.
