TEMUKA YOUNG MEN'S CLUB.

A general meeting of the abov= was held on Tuesday evening last in the Oddfellows' Hall. There were about 40 member* and friends present. Mr o'llallornn occupied the chair, and apologised for the absence of the President, the Per. T. A. Hamilton, who was he able to attend. The minutes of the last meeting were read and duly passed. Mr O'Halloran then reported the work the Committee had done in seeking suitable premises, "etc., and recommended Mr Darroeh'a and Mr Rayner's stores a§ the only places suitable for the purpose required. After a lively discussion, Mr Nicholas proposed, and Mr Carr seconded—' That Mr Darroch's store be taken as a club house at the rent of 10s per week.' This was carried, there being no amendment. The following rules and regulations were then passed :—I. That the Club be called 'The Ttuiuka Young Men's Club.' 11. That the object of the Ciub be the promotion of social intercourse, by providing out and indoor amusements, such as athletic games, etc., and lectures, debates, etc, for improving the mind. 111. That, the affairs of the Club be managed by a Committee, consisting of a , President, thies Vice-Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, and fix members, to be elected half-yearly. IV. That every member shall pay an entrance fee of ss, including first month's subscript ion, and a monthly subscription of 2s ; boys under 14 years, 2s 6d first month and Is per month afterwards. V. The election ©f members shall be by ballot. Names of intending members to be , posted up in Club room seven clear days ! prior to a general rreeting of members, one j black ball in five to exclude. VI. The, Club room shall be opened every nieht at 7 p.m. and closed at 10 p.m. VII. One member of Committee shall be present each night to maintain order and enfore the rules and regula tiona of the Club, and to see that the properties of the Club are carefully locked up on the closing of the premises. VIII. Smoking strictly prohibitect except in room specially provided for the purpose. IX. Every member wilfully destroying or damaging the Club property shall replace the game at his own cost. Any member infringing the byelaws of the Club shall be liable to have his name erased from the roll of membership, or to incur such fine as the Committee shall think proper to inflict. X. Evary member shall be supplied on entry with a card of membership and with a copy of the rules and regulations of the Club. XI. The above rules shall only be altered, added to, or rescinded at a general meeting of members, ealled for the specific purpose. XII. The Seoretary shall be empowered to call a special meeting at the request of not less than six senior members.

Mr Chamnan proposed, Mr Eadford seconded, and it was carried -' That the Committee be authorised to incur any necessary expenses in Waiting the Club, such as fitting up Club rooms with furniture, lamps, etc., etc.' Mr Bolton proposed, Mr Chapman seconded, and it was carried—' That the opening night bo Monday, June 16th, at seven o'clock, and that it b'e duly advertised.' Mr Bolton offered to supply the Timaru Herald daily to the Club, free, Mr Lucas also offered the Canterbury Times, free

weekly. Both offers were thankfully accepted. Several members then offered books, draught boards, chess, draught men, etc., wh ch wore all thankfully accented, and it was requested that they should be given to the Secretary not later than Friday, June 13th.

A hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting. ,
