A man named James Weston lias been arrested at Wellington on a charge of criminally assaulting a girl thirteen years
of age. John McGrevy, while getting on a dray at Waipawa loaded with gravel, fell under the wheel, which went over ids spine and killed him instantly. His , father was present. A coal miner named Thomas Henderson has been accidentally killed at the Westport Coal Company’s mine. He was putting in a prop and loosened a large stone, which fell on his stomach. It took four men to remove the stone.
William Mnllin Douglas committed suichie at Helensville (Auckland) by taking strychnine. He had been- discharged by his employer for neglecting his duty through drink, on Thursday last. A man named Jas. Craig, one of the ciew of the steamer Weka, has been missing, at Napier, for a week. He was last seen making for the steamer. Ic is supposed he has been drowned. At the Resident Magistrate’s Court, on Monday, Hugh Jones, late manager of the Great Republic Gold Mining Com pany, was committed for trial to the Supreme Court at Nelson, for the embezzlement of £4 lls 6d, and other sums the property of the Company. There are other charges yet to be heard. The total deficiency amounts to a considerable sum.
