GERALDINE LITERARY INSTITUTE

A meeting of the Committee of the above Institute was lie'ii on Monday evening last. The chair was taken by the President, the Rev. J. Preston. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . CORRESPONDENCE. Sundry correspondence was read and discussed, PETTY THEFT. The Secretary reported to the Committee, that lie had received complaints from the Librarian to the several papers,' 'pictures and nagaziniliad been abstracted from the table in the reading room ; also, the door scraper and mat had been frequently carrie 1 down the street some distance, and that several persons who were not subscribers regularly frequented the reading room of an evening and created disorder to a certain extent. After some discussion, it was proposed by Mr Westropp and seconded by Mr Pizzey, and carried —“ That in consequence of several papers and magazines being removed and other property of the Institute taken away, the police be communicated with on the subject.”

Proposed by Mr Westropp ami seconded by Mr Pizzey, and carried— That in future a notice be placed in the reading room to the effect that subscribers only are to be admitted and that any person found removing papers, pictures or magazines without the consent of the Librarian wi’l lie summarily dealt with.” LECTURE. Proposed by Mr Waitt, seconded by Mr Westropp, and carried—“ That the Rev. G. Barclay be asked to give his lecture as promised at an early dale ; also, that this be the commencement of a series of entertainments in aid of the funds of the Institute dming the winter months.”

Proposed by Mr Cook, and seconded by Mr Waite, and carried— •* 1 hat the prices of admission be sixpence for aduits and threepence for children.” Proposed by Mr Lloyd, seconded by Mr Cook, and carried— “ That re the smoking room, the prime mover not being present the matte’- be left in abeyance until next meeting.” Resolved Westropp, Lloyd and Willoughby be a Sub Committee to carry out the proposed series of entertainments during the winter months.”

A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting.
