OHRISTOHDRCH MARKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday the yards were fairly filled with all classes of stock, and attendance of buyers a large one, but throughout the sale great dulness prevailed, and a further drop in values took place. Fat sheep were of medium quality, with a few exceptions. Crossbred wethers sold at from 12s to 18s 3d, fat ewes 11s to 14s, merino wethers 9s 3d to 10s 6d, being a reduction of from Is to Is 6d per head, compared with late markets, and at the rate of from 2d to per lb, according to quality. In the store sheep market only a small number were offered. Business was done at a reduction even on last quoted values. Lines of lambs sold at 7s 6d, Bs, and Ks 3d ; cossbred ewes at 8s and 10s 3d, and lines of crossbred, four and six-tooth wethers, at 14s, and two tooth mixed sexes at 11s 6d, etc. Pigs were in good supply, demand was good, and late sales were more than upheld. Fat cattle were in large supply, competition was very limited, and late low values were not maintained, JSteers sold at from £4 17s 6d to £7 10s ; heifers from £4 10s to £6 10s, being at the rate of from 16s to 17s 6d per lOOlbs. But little was offered in the store cattle market.
DUNEDIN MARKETS. Mr L. Maclean, under arrangements with the British and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company (Limited), report for the week ending May 28th as follows : Fat Cattle—Best bullocks brought from L 8 to L 9 ss, others from L 6 to L 7 10s ; cows from L4toL 57s 6d. On account of M. Quinn, Esq, (South Canterbury), 1 sold 12 really prime bullocks at an average of L 9 2s 6d. I quote prime beef 20s to 22s 6H, medium, 17s 6d. Fat Sheep—29lß were penned for to-day’s market, about half of which were good to prime quality, the balance medium. A good few lines of best wethers were bought for refrigerating purposes, and but for this fact a decline on last week’s prices would have had to be accepted. Best crossbreds brought from 15s to 17a 9d ; merinos, 8s 3d to 8a 9d. For M. Quinn, Esq. (South Canterbury), I sold 125 crossbred wethers from 13s 6d to 15a 6d. I quote prime mutton at from 2|d to per lb. Fat Calves —From 10a to 325, Pigs—Weaners, 11s to 13a ; porkers, 30s to 40s ; bacon pigs up to 91s. Store Cattle—At present there is a fair demand for forward-conditioned bullocks for turnip feeding, and any lots offering are easily placed. Store Sheep—l have no transactions to report.
Sheepskins—Green crossbreds, 2s 9d to 3s ; do merinos, 2s 4d to 2s 8d ; lambskins, 2s to 2s 7d ; dry station skms, la 7d to 2s 9d ; in bales, 4Jd to 5Jd per lb. Hides—All lots to baud during the week have been cleared at late quotations, which remains unaltered. Tallow—The local demand still continues good, but shipping parcels are slightly neglected. No alteration to report in values.
Grain—Wheat : The market still remains in a very depressed state. The storage accommodation is fast filling up, with no likely chance of it soon being relieved. The only sales that are being made are small lots of prime quality milling to local buyers, all other lots being entirely neglected. Quotations (nominal): Velvet and Tuscan, 3 s 3d to 3s 6d for extra prime lota ; medium, 3s ; damp and inferior, 2s Gd to 2s 9d; fowl
feed, 2s to 2s 3d. Sales for the week, 1900 bushels. Oats are still coming forward freely, but as buyers fur shipping are still operating very cautmusjy, prices are slightly easier. I quote bright milling at 2s Id to 2s 2d ; bright feed, 2s ; inferior, 1s lOd to Is lid. My sales for the week are 10,000 bushels. Barley : Bright malting samples are in good demand at up to 4s, with few lots offering ; whi'e discolored and milling lots are plentiful, and dull of sale at from 2s 6d to 3s —in all cases bags weighed in.
