THE WAR IN THE SOUDAN.
Cairo, May 27
Letters have been received here from Station Bey, Governor-General of Darfor (an extensive territory belonging to Egypt, to the eastward of Kordofan), announcing that supplies having become exhausted, he has yielded to the rebels in order to avoid bloodshed, and the capital is now in the hands of the Mahdi’s adherents.
Telegrams have been received from the Governor of Dongola stating that he has defeated the rebels in the neighborhood of Debbeh, and recaptured that town.

It is announced that Zebehe Pasha has forwarded Government a letter he has received from General Gordon, m which the latter insists on his (Zebehe’s) immediate return to Khartoum. Statements have reached here to tha effect that a new Mahdi has appeared in the Darfour country. He has, it is said, secured the allegiancd of several tribes, and has fought a pitched battle with the followers of Mahommed Ahmet, the reputed Mahdi, in which the latter was defeated with heavy loss.
