RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Tbmoxi—Monday, Mat 12, 1884. [Before J. Beswick, Esq., R.M., and D. lawood, Esq., J.P.] CIVIL CASES. W. Bird v. Boyd Thomson and another —Claim £SB for wages. Dr Foster appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Aspinall appeared for the defendants. Mr Aspinall said that no partnership V «▼«■ existed between Boyd Thomson and the other party jointed with him in the ease. Mr Boyd Thomson was willing to hare the case heard on its merits without the other party being joined with him in it. Dr Foster said hia client wished to have Alexander Thomson joined in if, as he would hare better security for his . money. After some further discussion it was decided to hold the case over until the 26th inst. J. S. Hayes v. J. W. White. This was a case heard about a month ago, in which judgment was reserved. His Warship said Mr White had acted within his legal rights, and therefore would give judgment for defendant with - costs. Mr White said he would not ask for costs. Clark and Loughnan (trustees in the estate of the late W. R. Macdonald) v. F. Brown—Claim ±-94. This was another case in which judgment had been reserved. His Worship said there wa& nothing to show that the fire had been caused by the negligence of the defendant's servants. It might have been caused by a match, dropped in one of the sheaves, having been lighted by mice or rate anting it. At any rate their was nothing to show that the defendant was responsible for it, and on that ground he would Donsuit the plaintiff with costs. The Court then adjourned.
