MOUNT PEEL ROAD DISTRICT.
The annual meeting of the ratepayer! of this distract took place in the Road Board Office, Peel Porest, on Thursday the Ist May, a very limited number of ratepayers being present. The Hon. J. B.; A. Acland, Chairman of the Board, occupied the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting were rjad and confirmed. Iho Chairman referred briefly to the v.'.rious work* carried out by the Board during the past year, and slated that the difference existing at the beginning of the year between the Geraldine and Mount Peel Boards in reference to the maintenance of the road leading to theßangitata Station had been amicably settled. '' The road had been put in repair by both Boards, and for the future the maintenance of the road was entirely in the hands of the Geraldine Board. The balancesheet was then suhmitted, showing the receipts to have been as follows : —Balance at hegiuuing of the year, £16,958 2» 6d ; from the interest on fixed other sources, £4O 8* 7d, making a total of £17,763 lis Id. The expenditure on roads was :—Peel Forest district, £IOB7 7s 3d ; Raiocliff district, £3173 19a 7d ; Clayton and Sherwood Downs, £355 lis ; salaries, £225 ; miscellaneous, £llll9s ; material, etc., £444 17s lOd ; total £5398 I4«8d ; leaving a credit b»Unc« of £12,364 IP sd. The meeting expressed its approval and the balance-sheet wu adopted. Mr Thaw recommended that the Board should keep a supply of poisoned' grain for the destruction of small birds.
The Chairman proposed a vott of thanks to the Overseer to the Board, which was carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated th« meeting. v r _
