ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, April 27. An attempt has been made by anarchists to destroy the statue of 1 Germania,’ which was unveiled at Neiderwald in September last, by means of dynamite. The rumor from Pekin that Prince Kung, late First Secretary of State, had committed suicide in consequence of his having been publicly degraded is denied. Later. Earl Granville states that England is willing (ojnvite the Powers to consider the best means of maintaining order, and also of carrying on the good government of Egypt. He is, however, waiting to see what action France acd Turkey will take in the matter. It is now ascertained that an attempt was made to destroy the Neiderwald statue the day it was unveiled by the Emperor William, but it failed owing to the heavy rain falling. April 28. Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales and family left London yesterday for Darmstadt, Germany, where Her Majesty the Queen is now residing. Sir F. D. Bell will shortly proceed to Paris to interview M. Faure, French Under-Secretary for the Colonies, on the recidiviste question. Lord Derby states priyately that he is in favor of Federation, but cannot do anything io the matter until tome of the colonies sanction the result of the recent Conference at Sydney. April 29. No date has yet been fixed for the meeting of the projected Conference of European Powers regarding Egyptian affairs. Negotiations are still proceeding with a view of deciding what questions shall be brought under the consideration of the plenipotentiaries, but difficulties are now being raised by the French Government, which demands that the Egyptian question in its entirety shall be open to discussion. The Empress of Germany is improving in health. Belgrade, April 28. Archduke Rudolph, Prince imperial of Austria, arrived here to-day from Constantinople en route to Vienna. His Imperial Highness was cordially received by the King, and numerous fetes have been organised in his honor. Madrid, April 27. Widespread plots of a revolutionary character have been discovered in various parts of this country, and information which has reached the authorities shows that plans for an extensive rising are being rapidly carried into effect by the leaders of the conspirators. A serious disaster occurred at Cindad Real. While being crossed by a train the railway bridge over the Guadiana was precipitated into the river. Many passengers were killed and s large number were severely injured. It was subsequently found that the buttresses the bridge had been cut through, thus causing the catastrophe. It is believed that the agents of the revolutionary party were the perpetrators of the outrage. AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Melbourne, April 28. M. Journeaux, the Erench Commis sioner, has been interviewed by a repoiter of the Melbourne Daily Lele-gaap-h. He expressed himself as being opposed to the French Recidiviste Bill, and announced he had submitted reports to his Government against the measure, to which great opposition was shown in New Caledonia. The escaped lunatic Bourke. who was arrested lasi month on suspicion of being concerned in the Pettsvel munlo- in January, has been discharged from police custody, and has been again placed in the Asylum.
