CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS.
At the Addington Yards on Wednesday large entries of all descriptions of stock came forward, and buyers in pretty fair numbers. The prices paid for fat sheep shows a slight decline, and demand dull. Crossbred wethers sold from 15s to 19s 6d; crossbred ewes, of which to-day’s entry mainly consisted, from 13s 6d to 18s for very heavy weights; merino wethers met with hue little enquiry at from 8s 6d to 14s ; and from 2jd to 2Jd per lb was paid according to quality. A heavy entry of store sheep. Sales were made at a reduction on late rates. Crossbred ewes, at from 8s to 13s ; lines of two and four-tooth wethers, 12s 6d and 12s 9d ; merino ewes, at from 5s 6d to 8s 3d; and merino wethers st 5s 10a to 6s 2d. The store cattle market was moderately supplied, but business showed no improvement. A large entry of fat cattle was on offer, sales were made on a par with late rates, from 16s to 19s per lOOlbs.—Press.
Messrs Bobert Wilkin and Co. report : At our usual sale of sheepskins, etc., on Thursday, 17th inst, the trade was represented by all the local buyers, who kept the biddings well up to late quotations, the prices realised being a little better than they have been for some time past. Our catalogue consisted of about 960 skins, and 36 packages fat, tallow, etc., which we cleared at the following prices:—Merinos, from 2s to 4s 9d ; crossbreds, Is 6d to 3s for woolly skins ; lambskins, lOd to 2s 2d ; crossbred hoggets, Is 3d to 2s 3d ; merino pelts, 2d to Is 9d ; crossbred do, Id to Is lid ; butchers’ merinos, Is 6d to 2s 5d ; do crossbreds, Is 3d to 2s 7d ; rough fat, 2d to 2§d ; tallow, 2£ to 2§d.
CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE
The Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 18th inst :
The aspect of the grain market for the past week has been ‘ in regard to inquiries and values ’ but a reflex of the preceeding one. Owing to the Easter holidays falling in this week, business as a rule has given place to the various recreations incident to the season, yet the last day or two has shown signs of increased activity, thus giving an earnest of considerable briskness for the week to come. The following are the quotations to date : Wheat—Prime dry samples, Tuscan, 3s 5d ; pearl, 3s 4d ; Hunter’s, 3s 3d f.o.b. Oats Prime milling, 2s 3d ; bright short feed, 2s Id to 2a 2d ; Tartars and
Danish, la lOd to 2« ; inferior Is fid to la 9d f.o.b.
Barley—Malting 3s 9d to 4s, Christchurch, no extra quality coming forward. Grass Seed—Farmers' bright cleaned rye, 3s to 3s 6d ; machine-dressed, 4s ; cocksfoot, 3jd to 4d per lb f.o.b. Lyttelton.
Potatoes —30s to 32» fid per ton for forward delivery at couutry stations within twelve miles.
Butter—Very prime fresh potted, lOd ; inferior, 8d to 9d per lb.
Cheese meets with a little better enquiry at former rates, 3id to 44d per lb.
ENGLISH MARKETS,
London, April 15. Adelaide wheat, ex store, remains at 435, and New Zealand do. 35s to 41s. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, is worth 295.
The wool market continues dull. The new arrivals to date for next auctions now amount to 270,000 bales
The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cable from their London branch, dated 16th April, 1884 :—‘N,Z. wheat to arrive Quotations nominal. Frozen meat—Final average Doric shipment of mutton is fid per lb ; market steady ; mutton weighing 701bs to 75lbs per carcase is worth per carcase 9d per lb.’
