The opening meeting of the season took place on Wednesday at Plumpton Park grounds, when two rounds each of the Derby, Oaks, and April Cup were run. The meeting terminated on Thursday. The Canterbury Derby, for dog puppies at £3 10s each ; 18 acceptors ; winner, £35 ; runner-up, £lB ; third, £8 ; fourth and fifth, £3 each. In the Derby Mr T, Farrell’s r d Leinster Lad, by Richmond—Hinemoa, beat Messrs Ross and Bassett’s f d Balderdash, by Totara—Banshee. First Ties. Deucalion beat Prussian. Bob beat Royal Charlie Sir Ridley beat Leinster Lad Pakeha beat Hercules Forest King ran a bye. Second Ties. Deucalion beat Bob. Sir Ridley beat Forest King. Pakeha a bye. Third Ties. Pakeha beat Deucalion. Sir Ridley a bye. Final. Mr W. H. Porter’s bk w d Pakeha, by Crlchope Linn—Lancashire Lass, beat Mr Yietch’s f w d Sir Ridley, by Totara 11. —Miss Ridley, and won. Canterbury Oaks, for bitch puppies, at £3 10s each ; 28 acceptors ; winner, £SO; runner-up, £25; two dogs at £9 10s ; three dogs at £3. In the Oaks Mr M. Connelly’s r b Virginia Water was beaten by Mr J. Russell’s bk w b Bohemian Girl.
