THE WAR IN THE SOUDAN.
London, March 21. It is stated that Khartoum has been surrounded by the rebels, March 22. The Victorian gunboats will not be required for service at Souakim, and have therefore proceeded to Aden. A telegram from Khartoum, dated March 15th, says that a letter from Berber states that Gordon is safe. Cairo, March 20. The latest news to hand from Souakim states that Osman Dignainhis attempts ta rally Ids followers failed, and he has now left the hills near Taraaneb, and retired into tbe interior. Information has also reached Souakim that a great number of rebels who were wounded during the recent battle, but succeeded in reaching the hills, are now lying there in a dying slate. Three influential Sheiks of Eastern Soudan tendered their submission to General Graham, and it is expected that others will shortly follow.
March 22. Despatches dated the 15th inst. have been received from Gordon Pasha, announcing that he had succeeded in rescuing the besieged garrison at Sycfiyeh and intended to make an attack in force upon the rebels outside Khartoum next day, the 16th.
