MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Board's office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 15th inst. Present—The Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs R. Mackay, G. J. Dennistoun, and C. G. Tripp. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. THE LATE MR J. HENEY. The Chairman in referring to the vacancy on the Board, caused by the death of Mr J. Heney, spoke in feeling terms of the services received by that gentleman during his long term of office, and the loss the district had sustained by his untimely death. He then moved the following lesolution : "That the Mount Peel Road Board wish to place on record the expression of their feelings as to the great loss which they have sustained by the sudden death since their last meeting of one of their number, Mr John Heney, of Scocsburn. They wish to record the fact that Mr Heney, a very old resident in the district, was first elected a member of the Board in January, 1875, and continued without intermission during nine years to be a most useful and valued member of the Board, and they feel that his death is a loss to the Board and to the district as well as to his own family ; and that the members of tin's Board desire to offer their sympathy and condolence at his loss to Mrs Heney and the members of his family." The resolution was seconded by Mr C. G. Tripp, and carried unanimously. HEW MEMBER. The Clerk reported that since last meeting an election had been held to fill the vaoancy on the Board caused by the death of Mr John Heney, and that the election had resulted in the return of Mr Arthur Hawdon. Mr Hawdon, the newly-elected member, then took his seat on the Board. MR TRIPP AND THE COUNTY COUNCIL. Mr Tripp thanked the Board for the expression of approval, contained in the resolution passed at last meeting, of his services as member of the Geraldine County Council, and regretted that unavoidable circumstances necessitated his resignation. TENDERS. The following tenders were opened and considered . —For No. 18 contract, fencing the embankment at Rangitata bridge —James Proudfoot, £39 10a ; Maurice Lawlor, £32 10s (accepted). THE STATION ROAD. A letter was received from the Geraldine Road Board, enclosing an account for half the cost of work done on the Rangitata Station road. Resolved—' That the Geraldine Road Board be written to, drawing their attention to the fact that cancellation of the agreement entered into between the Boards is to take place on the completion of the road and payment of the money, and that the Board has instructed their solicitor for having thk done, and will be ready to make the final payment contemporaneously with the cancellation of the agreement.' APPLICATION DECLINED. Mr Andrew Reid made application for a refund of £lO paid by him for rock to metal the Spur road, Raincliff. Resolved—' That as under the conditions of the contract the metal had to be found by the contractor, the Board are unable to comply with the request.' VESTING? RESERVES. The Clerk was directed to write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking if the Government has come to any decision in respect to vesting the reserves already planted by the Board ; also to make application for having the land at the Road Board premises near Fairlie Creek conveyed to the Board. DILATORY CONTRACTOR. Resolved—' That notice be given to the contractor for forming Jefcoate's road, that unless the contract is commenced within fourteen days, and completed within a reasonable time the contract will be cancelled and the deposit forfeited.' NEW WORKS. Resolved—' That tenders be called for building a concrete culvert in the embankment near Walker's hut, Peel Forest, and for building a sheep bridge over the creek in Cattle Valley, Raincliff ; and that the Overseer arrange for having the top side of the cutting in the Rangitata terrace fenced.'
ACCOUNTS. After passing accounts to the amount of £213 7s Id, the Board adjourned.
