RETURN OF MR WAKEFIELD The election of a gentleman to represent the Selwyn constituency in Parliament, in the place of Mr E. J. Lee, deceased, took place last Friday, and resulted in the return of Mr Wakefield by a majority of 163 votes. The total number polled was 795, as against 618 at the previous contest. During the time the candidates have been in the field the electors have shown very great interest, which was raised to the greatest excitement as the hour drew near for the declaration of the poll.
