AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS

CHRISTCHURCH. Messrs Robert Wilkin and Co. report : At the Addington yards on Wednesday, 3199 sheep, 440 head cattle and 90 pigs came forward for the week’s supply. Fat sheep—With the exception of one or two drafts of prime wethers, the supply was an indifferent one, a large proportion being made up by merinos, which met a dragging sale at prices barely equal to late rates. In store sheep, a large entry of merino ewes was submitted, but owing to its being too early in the season for buyers of this class of stock, there was little or no business transacted. Fat cattle—A full supply to hand, but no improvement on late prices. Sheepskins, Fat, Hides, etc.—We quitted at auction to-day, about 1600 skins, consisting of merinos, crossbreds, pelts, lambskins, 70 bags fat, and a quantity ol hides, at satisfactory prices. Prices ranged as under : — Crossbreds, at from Is 3d to 3s 2d ; merinos, at 2s 7d to 6s 9d ; pelts, at Id to Is 2d ; lambskins, at 4d to Is lOd ; tat, from Id to 2fd ; hides, 601bs and over, at 4d ; from 401bs to 601bs, at 3£d ; under 40lbs, at 3d ; calfskins, 3£d ; cut do, at l|d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Feb. 5. At their wool sales this week, the New Zealand Lean and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, offered 1550 bales, of which 1370 were sold at satisfactory prices. Low crossbred wools and inferior qualities were generally easier, in sympathy with the London market. For scoured and high wools good competition was experienced, and the present quotations are equal to those ruling during the season. Several parcels of New Zealand wool sold fairly well. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Feb. 5. Colonial breadstuff’s continue quiet, but steady at last quotations, viz. : Adelaide wheat 44s ; New Zealand, 36s to 42s ; Adelaide flour, 81s, all ex store. Tallow Australian, for average quality, remains at 89s for beef and 42s mutton. The following telegram has been received by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, dated sth Feb., 1854 : Wool—Market dull. Coarse crossbred market easier. Up to date 226,000 bales have arrived. 38,000 bales have been taken for themanufacturingdistricts direct,

Wheat Market has a downward tendency. New Zealand is worth 41s per 4961b8, Tallow—Market quiet. Mutton is worth 43s and beef 39s per cwt. Leather—Market quiet. Best sides are worth 10|d per lb. Frozen meat—Market quiet. Mutton, weighing per carcase 701bs to 751 bs, is worth per lb.
