SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
GKERALDINE. The monthly meeting of the above Committee was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening last. Present--Messrs A. Sherratt (Chairman), C. K. Sherratt, Andrews, G. Ward, Dunlop, and Mundell. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. chairman's statement. The Chairman stated that since last meeting he bad written to the Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands re four acres of land on the Cemetery road near the park for a school site, and had also spoken to the Rev G. Barclay, Chairman of the Board of Education, on the matter, and called his attention to the fact that a reserve of 30 acres had been made at Stragglers' Flat had been gazetted for Geraldine. It was no use to Geraldine. Mr Barclay gested he should write again to the Commissioner and ask for an answer previous to next Monday night. He had done so. He thought the gazetting of 30 acres for Geraldine was a misUke. He laid the books of the Committee on the table as returned from the Education office, Timaru, duly audited. CORRESPONDENCE. A circular from the Board of Education was read, in regard to pupil teachers and the revision of the teaching staff. Also, a memo, from the Board, asking the Committee to nominate two persons as members of the Board for the ensuing year. Proposed by Mr Dunlop, seconded by Mr G. Ward and carried—" That Mr W. J. Steward be nominated." Proposed by Mr Mundell, seconded by Mr Andrews and carried —" That Mr Amos Sherratt be nominated." ACOOUNTB. Some small accounts were passed for payment. headmaster's report. The Head Master reported that the school re-assembled on the 14th inst., and the average attendance was 158.
VOTE OF THANKS. A votfi of thanks was unanimously passed to the Cli airman for the able manner in which he hail presided at the Committee's meetings. The meeting then terminated. GERALDINE FLAT. A special meeting of the Committee of the above school was held on Thursday, the 25th hist, all the members being present, and Mr John Bell in the chair, MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Education .Board re nominating two candidates to serve on the Board for the ensuing year. This was allowed to stand over until next meeting. From the same, requesting stamped receipts for the payment of certain moneys in connection with the expenditure of incidentals. The Chairman was requested to send receipts as early as possible. THE NBW KENCE. The sub-Committee appointed to see to the erection of the fence reported favorably of the manner in which the contract had been executed, and the amount due, £2 18s, was passed for payment. THE PUPIL TEACHERSHIP, Applications were then rsad for the post of pupil teacher. There were three candidates for the office, the choice falling on Master Wm. Lewis, subject to the approval of the Board, duties to commence after the harvest holidays. THE HOLIDAYS. On the motion of Mr Rose, seconded by Mr Kelraan, it was agreed to close the school on Friday, February Ist, for the space of five weeks. The meeting then adjourned till Monday, 28th inst.
