AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS
GERALDINE. Messrs J. Mundell and Co, repoxt sales of stock, etc., for the week ending January sth, 1884 : At our monthly stock sale on Wednesday at the Geraldine yards, the attendance as usual was good, and a considerable amount of business was got through. Cattle, both fat and store, were a little lower in values than last month and biddings not so spirited, which no doubt is attributable to the holidays being in full swing, consequently some of our principal buyers were absent. Sheep tound ready sale, and good prices were realised tor all lots submitted. The totals yarded for the day’s sale ;—Sheep, 817 ; pigs 10 ; cattle, 153, The prices realised were : Fat sheep (shorn), 13s 9d to 15s ; halfbred hoggets (shorn), 12s 91 to 13s ; merino wethers (in the wool), 11s lltl ; mixed crossbred ewes, 12s 6d. Pms, small stores, 15s. Cattle, 3-year-old steers, in forward condition, L 4 12s 6d ; 2-yeai-old steers and heifers, L 3 ; yearlings, Ll 17s 6d ; cows, springing, dull of sale at L 4 15s to L 5. We quote cow beef at 21s per lOOlbs. At Winchester Fair on Thursday the attendance was poor, and the entry small. We sold two fat heifers at L 5 17s 6d ; 14 2-year-old steers and heifers, at L2 lls ; 2 cows, with calves at foot, at L 32s 6d. Also a lot of sti re pigs, at from 15s 6d to 17s. We find a great demand exists for young store sheep. We have also pui chasers-for young store cattle, either steers or heifers.

Messrs Macleaa and Stewart report for the week ending Saturday last as follows : Horses—An average entry of draught and light harness horses and hacks was to-day booked for sale. They have’ to report a very dull demand at present for almost all classes, and but few lots found purchasers, and owners who- are anxious to sell must be prepared to reduce their values considerably. Today they sold a/fi/W good draughts from L 23 to L 26 ; lighter sorts, from Ll 6 to £22 ; ordinary hacks, L 8 to Ll 4. Cattle—Well-grown 2 and 3 yearold steers are in good demand, and prices for these are satisfactory. At the Washdyke yards last Monday a fair lot came to hand. They sold a pen of 14 steers and heifers at L 4 16s 3d ; a number of heifers and cows from L 3 to L 4 10s. Fat cattle—Present value, about 25s per 1001 b for prime quality beef. Sheep—The demand for store sheep is considerably easier this week. A. large number of the requirements have now been supplied, and till stubble feed comes on, the business in this class of stock will be limited. They have privately during the week, at satis 6*6-% tnry prices, 2000 merino wethers 300 crossbred 2-tooths. Fat sheep—.'!?' They quote present values at about 3d per lb. At the Washdyke yards last Monday they placed a line of 300 crossbred wethers at 16s 3d.
