INTERCOLONIAL CONFERENCE.
Sydney, Ncv. 28. At the meeting of the Annexation Conferei ce to-day, the Hon A. Stuart, Premier of New South Wales, was elected President. The discusion today was confined to preliminary measures. It has been decided that the Press shall not be admitted to the meetings of the delegates. Nov. 29, The Conference resumed its sittings this morning. It is understood that the New South Wales and Queensland delegates are in favor of a resolution being passed confirming the annexation of New Guinea. The Hon Mr Service’s resolutions onsthe subject of Pacific on-
nexation are now under discussion by the Conference.
It has been definitely decided by the Convention that members of the Press shall bo excluded. The question was put to the vote—the Victorian and New Zealand delegates being in favor of the admission of the Press, but the otbe’ delegates voted against it. The Convention has decided that
the memorial prepared by the European residents in Fiji may be presented by their member for consideration.
At this morning’s sitting the Hon Mr Service’s proposals in favor of the annexation of the Pacific Islands were discussed at great length. At the , afternoon sitting of the Conference a long discussion took place on the draft of a series of resolutions tabled by the Hon Mr Service and advocating the annexation of New Guinea, the New Hebrides and other islands of the Pacific. The text of the resolutions was withheld from the Press. The further discussion of Mr Service’s motion stands adjourned till to-morrow.
