He pursued a north-easterly course from Port Moresby, and almost reached the dividing range when the natives assembled and showed signs of hostility. Attempts were made to conciliate them, but were useless, and Mr Morrison was speared in two places. The party consisted only of three white men, one of whom was useless from fright. The other man, with great resolution, brought Mr Morrison over a hundred miles to the coast. For eight days Morrison had no food, and Lyons none for nine days, Mr Morrison's wounds are now quite well.
