Horses—On Thursday last, the Ist inst., they held their usual; annual sale of exhibited and other stock at their yards. They report having booked for sale on that day fully 180, horses, comprising a large number of first-class mares and geldings, a considerable portion being prize-takers, horses which were a credit to their owners and fit to be exhibited at any show. There were also, a number of good hacks and hunters, the balance being ordinary and medium draughts and light harness horses. On account of the large num r her of entries, the sale commenced at
eleven o’clock sharp, and the ? auctioneer ■sold without a pause till four o’clock in the afternoon, having succeeded in .disposing during that time of about 40 head at the following prices :—Extra good draught mares and geldings, .from L 33 to LSO ; medium sorts, from! L 24 to L3O ; good hacks and hunters, from LIS to L3O ; light and inferior, from LlO to Ll6'. At their yards to-day, ( again a good entry came forward, about 50 horses having passed under the hammer. The quality, with a few exceptions, was inferior, and in consequence prices ruling were low. Over 30 horses were sold to-day at about last Saturday’s quotations, viz. L 24 to L3O for fair good draughts ; from Ll 6 to L2O for light and inferior sorts,. A consignment of 12 head from Christchurch was also sold, but, on account of the inferior quality the prices realised were small, the lot averaging about L 7 pei head. Sheep—Store sheep are now being booked for sale, and from appearances the prices ruling during the season will be considerably in advance of former years. They have had no auction sales of importance during the week in this class of stock, but report to-day of having placed to one buyer/ privately, at a satisfactory price, 2500 : merino : wethers and 4000 merino ewes for forward delivery. Fat Sheep—Prices are similar to last week’s quotations, viz.j about 3d to per lb, Or account of Mr F. M. Rickman, Waimate, and jointly with him, they sold at Studholme Junction yards last Monday 170 shorn merino wethers at 9s 6d ; also 260 shorn crossbred wethers at 14s Id, and privately they have placed during the week 400 shorn crossbred wethers at a satisfactory figure. Cattle—-They have enquiries for well forward stores, and prices for this description of Cattle are somewhat better than they were about a lorlnight ago. They have had no auction sales of importance during the week,, arid quote values as per last report. Fat cattle have advanced, both in the demand and in prices, and prime quality beef may be quoted at from 25s to 27»' 6d per 1001 b; In conjunction with Mr F. M./ Rickman, Waimate, and on his behalf, they : sold last Monday at Studholme/ Junctiori yards 20 very prime bullocks and 24 heifers and cows at the following prices 4 bullocks at Ll2 7s 6d> 4do at Lll 17s 6d, 4 do, at LlO 17s 6d, 4 do at .LlO, 10s, 4 do at L 9, 4 heifers at L 9 2s 6d, 4 do at L 8 15s, 5 do at L 8 10s, 2 do at L 8 ss, 7 do at LB, 2 cows at L 6 ss. . ; Winchester Fair—This monthly fair was postponed from the usual sale day (Thursday) until Friday , on account of the Show and other sales. A considerable number of sheep and cattle came forward for sale, but almost no (business was done, the different lots being passed

The market during the past week has* been void of any feature worthy of particular notice. There have been a few large parcels offering, the prices however, not being such as to induce buyers; to operate. Values show v.ery little or no change.
